Calm in the Chaos

Calm in the Chaos

Calm in the Chaos

At times life can be very unpredictable and chaotic.  Even more so, when you work in a school setting and include 50 teachers, 50 staff members, and roughly 1200 students.

After you get to know individual students, you begin to expect the “unexpected” or know them like your kids. For example, I know if I have Binaural and Riot Act (names changed) in the same class it could cause problems. The most significant predictor of future behavior is to look at past behavior in a similar situation. (Someone Smart).

As administrators, we learn from types of behavior and try to help students grow and learn from both positive and negative behavior.

On the other hand, it is difficult to handle a situation where current behavior does not match or even come close to previous behavior. It becomes Unpredictable or Chaotic.

We had some unpredictable behavior at school last week by multiple students. That if isolated, would have been fine, but in this case, was not isolated and became a significant problem.

I stood in the principal’s office (He was at a training meeting) with a specific message to share with our SRO (School Resource Officer), head secretaries, and counselors.

Some heard confidence, and some heard fear, but all of them showed love and support.

They moved forward with confidence and did their job.

I am grateful for the people I work with and so grateful that they are calm in the chaos.

I know there are holes in this post, but I am unable to fill them without sharing details that unfortunately, I can’t.
