Some Updates and Changes
I started this website nine years ago as a tool to help students and parents connect with our classroom, and with what was happening on a daily basis. See below

It’s been nearly six weeks since my last post. Ive been working on organizing the site and making things a little easier to find.

Over the past eight years, I’ve put together over 800 pages and posts to help students, parents, and teachers navigate middle school and the English language. This site brings in about 500 visitors a day to different parts of the website. The site makes a little bit of money from Amazon Affiliate Links and Google Adsense. It’s not a ton, but enough to pay for server space, the domain name, and some left over each month. That was never my intention. It was a side benefit of putting together useful information and helping kids succeed.

It’s clear I was pretty excited to start teaching.

When I started writing more regularly (earlier this year) , I wanted to change the site’s theme to focus strictly on the new posts and the writing. I found and installed a minimalist theme I got from Leo Babauta at ZenHabits. I loved the idea of my readers focusing on the writing. However, most of the visitors of this website are not here for the writing, but come for the resources I have put together over the past eight years.

So, by changing the focus of the website to the writing, I did a lot of my visitors a disservice and made things less organized and more difficult to find, even if it was easier for me and you to follow. They let me know through emails and comments on the pages and posts.

Because of this, I have decided to clean up the site, organize the content, delete non-useful posts, delete dead links, have a landing page home page, organize blog posts, organize resources into new and improved categories, and start another podcast with an education focus.

The podcast will be my third run with podcasts. The first was the Utah Jazz Podcast which ran for nearly six years and we completed 200+ episodes. I am super proud of our commitment and dedication to that project. For a time, we were the only Utah Jazz centered podcast available. Second, The School Story podcast which focused more on middle school students and what they deal with. Lee Hale and I did this with students after school as part of a club/group. It was a phenomenal project for both of us and the handful of students involved.

What this means for the site.

You will see some adds, a few more book reviews, and some posts that may not be your cup of tea. It’s my website. So you might just have to skip a post every once in a while.

Having said all of this I am really proud of what I have built here. There are a few pages and posts that rank #1 in the world for that specific search term. Yes, the entire planet. I know it’s wierd, but I want to continue to help students, teachers, parents, and administrators be better and restructuring the site is the best way I think I can do that.

I ask that you be patient with me as these changes take place. I am a one man team. I think the end result will be something special.
